Does Netflix Still Work on iPhone 6 Plus?
The short answer: the Netflix app from the App Store no longer supports iOS 12, so you can't install the current version on your iPhone 6 Plus. But that doesn't mean you're locked out of Netflix entirely โ there are two reliable approaches that work in 2026.
Your iPhone 6 Plus runs a maximum of iOS 12. Netflix's current app requires iOS 16 or later. There is a gap โ but it's bridgeable.

Method 1: Install the Last Compatible Version via Purchased Apps
Apple quietly built a way to install older, compatible versions of apps onto devices that can't run the current version. Here's how to use it for Netflix on your iPhone 6 Plus:
- On a current iOS 16+ device (a friend's phone, a family member's iPad) โ download Netflix using the same Apple ID. If you've ever had Netflix on your account before, it's already in your Purchased list.
- On your iPhone 6 Plus, open the App Store.
- Tap your profile picture (top right).
- Tap Purchased, then search for Netflix.
- Tap the cloud icon next to Netflix. iOS will ask: "This app requires iOS 16. Download the last compatible version?"
- Tap Download.
The version you'll get was the last Netflix release that supported iOS 12. It connects to the Netflix servers normally โ your account, your watchlist, your downloads all work. The app simply won't have the newest UI or the very latest features, but it streams video just fine.
โ This method works for Netflix as of mid-2026. Netflix submitted multiple binary versions to Apple over the years, so the last iOS 12-compatible version is available in the Purchased system. If Netflix prompts you to update and the update fails, just dismiss it โ the old version keeps working.
Method 2: Netflix via Safari (PWA)
If the Purchased Apps trick doesn't work for your account, or if you'd prefer not to rely on an older app version, Netflix has a fully functional web app accessible via Safari on iOS 12.
- Open Safari on your iPhone 6 Plus.
- Go to netflix.com and sign in.
- Tap the Share button (box with arrow) in the Safari toolbar.
- Tap Add to Home Screen.
- Name it 'Netflix' and tap Add.
You now have a Netflix icon on your home screen that opens directly in full-screen Safari. The web app supports HD playback, browsing, and your full account. The main limitation: you cannot download content for offline viewing via the web app โ that's app-only.

Method 3: AirPlay to a TV or Apple TV
If you have an Apple TV, a Chromecast, or a smart TV with AirPlay support, you can stream Netflix from a current device and mirror it to a larger screen โ bypassing the iPhone 6 Plus entirely for the heavy lifting while still using it as a controller via the Remote app or the Netflix app on another device.
Alternatively, if you're using your iPhone 6 Plus primarily as a media player connected to a screen, consider a ยฃ30โ40 Amazon Fire Stick or Chromecast with Google TV as a dedicated Netflix device โ both support current Netflix fully.
What Doesn't Work Anymore
To be clear about limits:
- Direct App Store install โ Netflix won't appear in search on iOS 12 devices. You must go via Purchased.
- Downloaded (offline) viewing โ only available in the native app, not via Safari PWA.
- Spatial Audio / Dolby Atmos โ recent audio enhancements require newer hardware and OS.
- Password-sharing restrictions โ Netflix's household checks work on the old app version exactly as they do on the current version. No difference there.
Our verdict
Your iPhone 6 Plus can still stream Netflix in 2026. The Purchased Apps route is the cleanest solution โ you get a native app, offline downloads, and full account access on iOS 12. The Safari PWA is a solid fallback. Neither requires jailbreaking or any unofficial software.
